Keijo Hämäläinen is the Rector of the University of Jyväskylä. Before that, he has been a full-time vice rector of the University of Helsinki, a dean of the Faculty of Science, and a professor of Physics at the University of Helsinki.
Hämäläinen serves in several national positions of trusts, such as the chair of Federation of Finnish Learned Societies, a member of the Finnish Research Infrastructure Committee at the Academy of Finland, the chair of the Publication Forum steering group, and a member of the advisory boards of the National Defence University, and the Finnish Meteorological Institute. His international assignments include, for example, memberships in the board of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and in the research councils of several European research institutes.
Hämäläinen is a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters and the Finnish Society of Science and Letters. He has received the Väisälä Prize of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. At the University of Helsinki, he was invited as an inspector for the Central Finland students’ association in 2017, awarded as the Communicator of the Year in 2010 and selected three times as the teacher of the year in the Department of Physics.
